1468th -- On Being Kind And Charitable

This life that we have been gifted and entrusted with is something that is so special that sometimes becomes forgotten because of the busyness of this world’s pace. We are bombarded now more than ever with noise all around us telling us that in order to be happy and content we must strive for personal gain. In my life I have listened to and believed the lie that wanting only for myself would bring me lasting joy and contentment, but as hard as I tried it with more and more possessions I felt emptier and emptier. It was only after I surrendered my heart and will to the Lord Jesus Christ that my life’s mission changed from wanting only for my own betterment to wanting also for the betterment of my fellow man. The Bible declares in 1 John 4:12 “No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.” Our interactions with our fellow man are a direct reflection of our relationship with the Lord. When we take the initiative to bless, to encourage, to inspire, to lift up and simply be gracious towards another soul in need, we are emulating the exact kindness that God shows towards us in our time of need. (Philippians 4:8) (Ephesians 4:29-32)

We should never have a holier than thou mentality towards others because we are sinners just the same. We have all fallen short at one time or another. We have all made mistakes that we wish we could take back. That is why we should deal with others kindly just as God has dealt with us. The Bible declares in Psalm 103:10-13 “He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him.” May we always see our own flaws so that we may be quick to help cover up the flaws of others; showing kindness instead of ridicule, mercy instead of revenge, love instead of hate and encouragement over condemnation. When we lead our life in this manner I believe we will build a legacy that will live on in the hearts and minds of all those whom we were fortunate enough to cross paths with. (Luke 6:31) (John 15:9-15)

I hope these quotes inspire and encourage your heart to remember to be kind, caring and loving towards everyone you meet because you may be the difference maker in their lives.

ON BEING KIND AND CHARITABLE

Complete possession is proved only by giving. All you are unable to give possesses you.
~ Andre Gide

What you deny to others will be denied to you, for the plain reason that you are always legislating for yourself: all your actions and words define the world you want to live in.
~ Thaddeus Golas

Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So spread your love everywhere you go.
~ Mother Teresa

To receive everything one must open one's hands and give.
~ Taisen Deshimaru

This only is charity to do all, all that we can.
~ John Donne

The beginning and end of Torah is performing acts of loving kindness.
~ The Talmud

Through our willingness to help others we can learn to be happy rather than depressed.
~ Gerald Jampolsky

Give light and the darkness will disappear of itself.
~ Erasmus

We who lived in concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread. They may have been only a few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken away from a man but one thing. The last of the human freedoms - to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances is to choose one's own way.
~ Viktor Franki

Our deeds determine us, as much as we determine our deeds.
~ George Eliot

Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution.
~ Kahil Gibran

Let us be kinder to one another.
~ Aldous Huxley (on his death bed)

When strangers start acting like neighbors communities are reinvigorated.
~ Ralph Nadar

It is better to give and receive.
~ Bernard Gunther

No joy can equal the joy of serving others.
~ Sai Baba

Shall we make a new role of life from tonight? Always try to be a little kinder than is necessary.
~ Sir James M Barrie

I was a thief, said the last kind word to Christ. Christ took the kindness and forgave the theft.
~ Robert Browning

Charity is in the heart of man, and righteousness in the path of men. Pity the man who has lost his path and does not follow it and who has lost his heart and does not know how to recover it. When people's dogs and chicks are lost they go out and look for them and yet the people who have lost their hearts do not go out and look for them. The principle of self cultivation consists in nothing but trying to look for the lost heart.
~ Mencius

Give help rather than advice.
~ Luc de Vauvenargues

Charity is the bone shared with the dog when you are just as hungry as the dog.
~ Jack London

A gift consists not in what is done or given but in the intention of the giver and the doer.
~ Seneca

By the accident of fortune a man may rule the world for a time but by virtue of love and kindness he may rule the world forever.
~ Lao Tse

Kindness makes the difference between passion and caring. Kindness is tenderness, kindness is love, perhaps greater than love. Kindness is good will, kindness says ''I want you to be happy.'' Kindness comes very close to the benevolence of God.
~ Randolph Ray

In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
~ Jesus - Matthew 7:12

He that is kind is free, though he is a slave, he that is evil is a slave, though he be a king.
~ St Augustine

What wisdom can you find that is greater than kindness.
~ Jean Jacques Rousseau

When deeds speak words are nothing.
~ African Proverb

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”

Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”

Galatians 6:2-4 “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth...”

Romans 15:1-4 “We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not Himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on Me. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
