1511th -- Unwanted House Guests

We should always be conscious to what we allow ourselves to think about and focus on. Whether we realize it or not we are at all times either blessing our life or cursing our life. We are doing so by what we think, what we say and how we act. The Bible makes this very clear as we read in Deuteronomy 30:19-20 “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” It is our choice whether we speak words of victory or words of defeat. God has given us free will to choose this day whom we will serve. We can either serve ourselves and soon find ourselves wanting or we can do God’s will, follow His statutes and find ourselves blessed and rising above. For me it has always been easy to choose God’s way over my way because I know that within me lies only corruption and lack, but with God leading and guiding my life miracles happen that I could never fully understand or explain. (Romans 12:1-4) (Joshua 24:15)

I encourage and challenge you to think about what you are thinking about. Do you see yourself as a victor or a victim? Do you speak words of blessing over your life or do you curse your today's and tomorrows by speaking negative words that only hinder your life? The Lord Jesus warns us about our words because He knows the power that they possess. Jesus declares in Matthew 12:36-37
“But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Let us see the importance of focusing on the right things and speaking words that will bless our life and not curse it. The Bible says the tongue though it is a small member of our body it still has the power to lead us towards our victory or towards our destruction. (Proverbs 4:20-27) (James 3:1-12)

May we take account of what we are thinking about and what we are saying so that they may be changed into thoughts and words of blessing, of praise, of thanksgiving and of glorifying God above every trial or challenge that is trying to steal our joy and make us murmur and complain against the Lord. We should always remember and keep in mind that God is good and His blessings abound. May we think on His goodness so that we may give Praise, Honor and Glory to the Lord for all that He has done for us in our past, in our present and in our future to come. (Psalm 34:1-10)

I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to guard your thoughts and speak words purposefully that will bless your life and elevate it to heights that you’ve never reached before.

UNWANTED HOUSE GUESTS

Have you ever had unwanted house guests? I am talking about the ones who wear out their welcome in the first two minutes yet plan to stay forever. I am talking about the ones who trash the place, eat all the food, sit in your favorite chair, and take over your bed. I am talking about the ones that even your dogs avoid. I am talking about the ones that take everything and give back nothing. I am talking about the ones that only brighten up a room when they leave it.

I had two guests like this for years. Their names were Fear and Hate and they seemed like permanent squatters in my soul. Every time I would try and toss them out, I would look around a few days later and find that they had snuck back in. They also invited their friends Worry, Doubt, Jealousy, Envy, Frustration, Depression, and Despair to stay as well. It made for a miserable home and a miserable life.

Finally one day I could take it no longer. I cried out to God to help me get rid of these unwanted guests once and for all. It was then that I heard a gentle knock on the door of my soul. When I opened it I found Love there smiling at me. I invited Love in and watched as my unwanted house guests fled out the door and through the windows. They couldn’t leave quick enough. Then Love asked his friends Peace and Joy over to help straighten up the place. I soon realized too that Love was a guest I never wanted to leave. Every now and then Fear and Hate will try to sneak back in, but when they see Love sitting on the couch they run.

God loves us so much and He wants us to love as well. He wants us to choose love, share love, and fill our lives with love. He wants us to love each other as He loves us. He wants us to make Love our permanent house guest and best friend. Open your door then. Invite Love in. Let Fear and Hate hit the highway. Make your home a happy one now and forever.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Proverbs 4:20-25 “My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.”

Philippians 3:13-14 “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Psalm 84:11-12 “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in Thee.”

Proverbs 8:32-36 “Now therefore hearken unto Me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep My ways. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. Blessed is the man that heareth Me, watching daily at My gates, waiting at the posts of My doors. For whoso findeth Me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD. But he that sinneth against Me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate Me love death.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
