We should always keep it in our minds that we should have a cheerful
disposition no matter what is going on all around us. Many times we allow
our circumstances to dictate our mood. If everything is going well in our
lives at any particular moment then we will be happy, cheerful and
easy-going, but if there are stresses, trials or challenges that seem too
difficult to overcome then we will be discouraged, downhearted or even
depressed. What we must realize is that it is within our own control how
we act and how we feel. We can bring into subjection every negative
emotion that tries to impair how we see life. We can choose to be happy,
we can choose to be cheerful, we can choose to see the good that surrounds
us. It is up to us how our days will be spent. We can either spend them
in joy or we can spend them in misery. My choice has always been to choose
Joy because when I think of the many blessings that God has bestowed upon
me, it is an easy decision to make.
Another thing that we should always keep in mind is that when we are angry,
frustrated and at our wits end, we are affecting our physical health. Our
health suffers when our emotions aren't kept under control. When we become
angry for instance our body releases a stress hormone called Cortisol.
Cortisol when released in small amounts can give the body a burst of
energy, but higher and prolonged increases of Cortisol can bring a host of
negative effects on the body such as increased blood pressure, chronic
inflammation, suppression of the immune system and thyroid function as
well as impaired thinking, decreased bone density and an increase in heart
rate. What we become angry about in our minds will affect our entire body
so why let it? Instead we should see the good, we should focus on our
blessings, we should be thankful for all that God has given us and we
should release every embitterment because it will be to our benefit when
we do.
Be encouraged to see the good that surrounds you. Don't allow yourself to
just muddle through life with no enjoyment or fulfillment. Make a decision
to let go of any past grudges, resentments or unforgiveness. See the
frailty of life and know that tomorrow is not promised to us. When we
know life is so fragile, why should we go through it being angry? Instead
allow yourself to adopt a new philosophy; one where you will be joy filled,
forgiving, encouraging and easy-going because you will have realized that
nothing is worth you losing your Joy.
I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to make a conscious
decision to enjoy each new day that you are lucky enough to see.
HEALTH INSURANCE
Have you noticed how health insurance is like a hospital gown: every time
you turn around, you find something that isn't covered? But health
researchers are discovering what many people have known all along -- that
getting healthy is about more than medicine and treatment. It also involves
a healthy outlook on life.
Various studies have validated the mind/ body connection. Cancer is often
diagnosed within months of the death of one's spouse. People who are
cynical or angry have been shown to be more prone to heart attacks than
those with a more positive outlook. And former Saturday Evening Post
editor Norman Cousins has demonstrated for years how humor, laughter and
hope can aid the healing process.
Not only is a healthy mental outlook necessary, but a healthy spiritual
outlook seems to be equally important. Noted psychologist Carl Jung
(1865-1961) made a telling observation about the connection between one's
mental health and spiritual outlook. “During the past 30 years, people
from all civilized countries of the earth have consulted me,” he said.
“Among all my patients in the second half of life -- that is to say, over
35 -- there has not been one whose problem in the last resort was not that
of finding a (spiritual) outlook on life. It is safe to say that every one
of them fell ill because he had lost that which living religions of every
age have given to their followers...”
A healthy person is not one with a certain lifestyle, a certain income or
certain favorable circumstances. A healthy person is usually one with
certain attitudes. Positive mental attitudes and fruitful spiritual
attitudes are part of it. One might say that a robust spiritual outlook is
good health insurance.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Hebrews 13:5-6 “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be
content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, I will never leave
thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper,
and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
Psalm 34:1-4 “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall
continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the
humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and
let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and
delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalm 34:17-19 “The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth
them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a
broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the
afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”
Psalm 103:1-5 “Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless
His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who
redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness
and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy
youth is renewed like the eagle's.”
All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
