God has given us just this one life to live on the earth. What we do with
it, how productive we are with it, the difference we make with it is solely
in our hands. God has given us the ability to succeed, to triumph, to
become the victors, but we must be diligent in guarding our hearts knowing
that there is a real enemy who is trying to destroy our life. No matter
where you may be in life, you still have challenges, struggles, heartaches,
discouragements and setbacks. Nobody in life is completely free of trouble
no matter who they made be, no matter what title they hold and no matter
how much money they may have. Problems, temptations and trials come in
all manner of ways, but we must have the knowledge and realization that we
can overcome every attack of the enemy and be triumphant through the Lord
Jesus Christ who gives us all strength and power over the enemy.
(Proverbs 4:23) (1 Peter 5:8-9)
We must understand and keep in mind that we have a real enemy who wishes to
destroy our life, to nullify our impact upon society and this enemy wishes
to steal every gift and ability that God has graciously instilled within
our being. We must be steadfast and diligent in doing the right things
even when we are tempted to fall away and give in to our fleshly desires.
What we must realize is that sin's final destination is death. We read
this in James 1:14-15 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of
his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth
forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” When we
say no to God and yes to sin, we will be going in a downward spiral that
can't be reversed and our continued sin will result in our death. Why
should we allow that to happen? I say allow because it is within our
ability to refuse every temptation and follow the straight and narrow path
that leads to life, liberty, joy and peace in Almighty God.
(1 Corinthians 10:12-13) (Matthew 7:13-14)
The story that inspired me to write this message was the death of Cory
Monteith who died on July 13, 2013 at the young age of 31 years old. Cory
was a television and movie actor who was also a talented singer and his
potential was only limited by his own will. An autopsy showed that he
passed away from an overdose of heroin and alcohol. Cory had dealt with
addiction for over a decade and many people who know him well thought that
he had overcome his addiction and came out of it better than he has ever
been. Unfortunately the devil's temptations overcame Cory's will to stay
clean and in the end he gave his life for not being able to resist those
temptations. Upon learning of this young man's death, I became very angry
at the devil. The enemy stole another life that had unlimited potential,
but was now snuffed out and every dream that Cory had was now extinguished
and will never come to pass. (James 1:13)
I can't say it enough that we have a real enemy who wishes for our
destruction. The devil knows that greatness lies within each of us, but
if he can use his evil devices to distract us, to keep us busy, to give in
to that temptation, then he knows it will lead to our death. The enemy
will continue to whisper in our ear to do it just one more time and no harm
can come from it. We know this isn't true because everything the devil
says is a lie. The Lord Jesus declares in John 8:44 “...When he speaketh
a lie, he speaketh of his own for he is a liar, and the father of it.” We
must wake up and realize that our life is way too precious and way too
important to allow the enemy to sidetrack our life from reaching its
fullest potential. (Psalm 139:17-18) (Job 1:6-12)
No matter what you may be going through, I want you to know that you can
overcome through the Lord Jesus Christ because He has given us power over
the enemy. Our words, our prayers, our confession has power within it.
The Lord Jesus declares in Matthew 16:19 “And I will give unto thee the
keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth
shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall
be loosed in heaven.” We have the ability to overcome, but we must stand
in our authority and proclaim our deliverance from every temptation that
the enemy tries to bring before us.
The Lord Jesus Christ has given us the authority to use His name to free
ourselves from the enemy's traps. We can confess God's promises, we can
bind the enemy's thoughts into our life and the temptations that he brings
and we can ask God to loose His angels to protect us, to guard us, to
strengthen us and keep us from harm. The Lord is ready to fight on our
behalf, but we must stand in our authority, know who we are in Christ and
ask for God to deliver us and lead us towards the path of righteousness
for His Names sake. Never doubt God's love for you. He loves you with an
everlasting love and wishes for you to triumph and overcome in every area
of life, but you must desire to be changed. You must ask, seek and knock.
You must be determined to resist every temptation in every circumstance
and when you stand firm and unmoved, your life will elevate to heights you
never thought or imagined would be possible. (Luke 10:20-21) (Luke 11:9-10)
I give God praise and thanks for this message and I pray you will take it
to heart if you need to overcome an addiction that has kept you bound for
weeks, months or years. Always remember that with God all things are
possible so be encouraged to call upon Him no matter how tough your
struggle may be. (Philippians 4:6-7)
Read and meditate on these scriptures:
1 Peter 5:8-9 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as
a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist
stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished
in your brethren that are in the world.”
Matthew 7:13-14 Jesus declares “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide
is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many
there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is
the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”
Psalm 34:4-9 “I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from
all my fears. They looked unto Him, and were lightened and their faces
were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved
him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about
them that fear Him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD is
good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him. O fear the LORD, ye His
saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him.”
Psalm 91:11-16 “For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep
thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou
dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder:
the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he
hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on
high, because he hath known My Name. He shall call upon Me, and I will
answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour
him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him My Salvation.”
