1276th -- A Roadmap For The Journey

Do you know that you have access to God Almighty? Do you know that you can get His attention? How you might ask. It is as simple as bowing your head and lifting your voice to the Lord asking for His blessing, direction, intercession, leading, healing, guiding, encouragement, strengthening or whatever your need may be in that moment. We have a line of communication with the God who created the universe and all that is within it. When we humble ourselves before the Lord and seek Him in prayer, the Bible says that He will hear us and attend unto our prayer. The Lord who is merciful and gracious has promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us and we are told that because we have a High Priest who understands our weakness, we may come boldly to the throne of grace. (James 4:10) (Psalm 66:19-20)

The Lord Jesus understands our weakness. The Bible says He was tempted in all ways just like as we are, yet without sin. When we pray asking for strengthening, the Lord will hear and answer your hearts cry because He knows what you are feeling. We should confidently call upon the Lord knowing that we will be heard. We read this in 1 John 5:14-15 “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us: And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” (Hebrews 4:15-16)

I encourage you to be confident in the Lord. Don't fear prayer, but rather embrace prayer. Don't go through life thinking that God is mad at you or that you are beyond redemption. The Lord who is full of mercy promises to forgive you, redeem you and make you a new creation in Christ. All who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Never forget this truth and never forsake calling upon the Lord. He wishes to be your Lord, Redeemer and best friend. Whatever need you may have, you can call upon the Lord and share it with Him. He knows you better than you know yourself and when you call upon Him, your heart will find its rest and you will know what peace truly feels like. (Isaiah 1:18-19) (2 Peter 3:9)

I hope this message inspires and encourages your heart to spend time with the Lord in prayer sharing with Him all that is on your heart.

A ROADMAP FOR THE JOURNEY

Gloria Pitzer quips, “In parts of the world, people still pray in the streets. In this country they're called pedestrians.”

The late theologian and educator Henri J. Nouwen said about prayer, “As we are involved in unceasing thinking, so we are called to unceasing prayer.”

I've noticed that a lot of people believe in prayer, but they don't always believe in praying. For them, prayer is like a spare tire. They keep it in the trunk of their automobile and don't think about it most of the time. But it's there if they need it. When they have a flat tire they turn to the spare to get them through the emergency.

It's a bit like the soldier in a foxhole: bombs were bursting all around and he prayed, “Lord, I haven't bothered you in twenty years. Get me out of this alive and I promise not to bother you for another twenty!” He figured he'd use his spare tire about once every couple of decades or so.

I've noticed, too that prayer for some other people is more like a road map. But it is not something tucked away in small compartment and rarely used. Instead, it stays open and spread out on the car seat. It is used constantly. These people understand how necessary a road map is if they are to ever get where they want to go. For them, prayer isn't just for emergency use, but it guides them through the intricacies of life.

I know that people of many faiths practice various forms of prayer. But I like thinking of it more as a road map than a spare tire. A road map can make a difference every day.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Psalm 61:1-4 “Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings...”

Psalm 55:16-18 “As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice. He hath delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me: for there were many with me.”

Psalm 118:5-9 “I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
