I receive a lot of help in my life. I receive the help not because I want it, but because I need it. Things that I cannot do for myself, others around me graciously and willingly do so that my life will be just a little bit easier. I greatly appreciate the kindness and love that is shown to me on a daily basis and I know that my prayer for those who show such kindness is to receive those same blessings upon their life that they bestow upon mine. That is why I know that doing good towards others is not a lost cause. When we take the time to be a blessing it is never in vain because the recipient will be thankful for you even if you don’t realize it yourself. When we take the position of being a blessing to someone else we are making a conscious decision to be used to make a difference in someone else’s life that will last far longer than we can think or imagine. (Matthew 5:14-16) (1 John 4:12-13)
What we must always remember and keep in mind is that when we do good deeds unto others we should imagine that we are doing them unto the Lord Himself. The Lord Jesus declares in Matthew 25:35-40 “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying, Lord, when saw we Thee an hungred, and fed Thee? or thirsty, and gave Thee drink? When saw we Thee a stranger, and took Thee in? or naked, and clothed Thee? Or when saw we Thee sick, or in prison, and came unto Thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.” (Philippians 2:2-8) (2 Corinthians 9:6-9)
Be encouraged to think of how you can serve the Master by serving your fellow man. What can you do to bless someone else? What encouraging word can you share to lift them up? What kind of deed can you do to bless their day and show them how special they are in your sight? It is a simple thing to be a blessing, but we have to put in the effort and want to do good without motive, without pretense and with purity of heart. When we do, our life will be remembered far longer than our deeds took to make and we will be proud that we were able to serve the Lord by serving His children. (Luke 6:27-31) (Galatians 6:6-10)
I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to lead your life in a manner that would be pleasing to the Lord when you stand before Him to give an account of each day that you spent on the Earth.
KIND EYES
I read an old story the other day that both knocked on the door of my heart and opened a window into my mind. I am not sure if it is factual or just a myth. One thing is certain, though, it spoke to my soul.
Early in the eighteen hundreds an old man stood along a riverbank. It was the middle of a dark, Winter’s night in Virginia and the ice cold water was raging. There were no bridges or ferries across the river. The only way to cross safely was on horseback, so the old man waited patiently until he saw four riders approaching. As the first three riders rode up and crossed the river, however, the old man said nothing. It was only when the last rider came to the riverbank that he asked for a ride across. The rider kindly agreed and offered the old man a hand up on his mount. After making it to the other side of the rushing river he helped the old man down and questioned him on why he hadn’t asked any of the previous riders for help.
The old man said, “I looked into the eyes of each man as they rode past and saw that their hearts were cold. I knew that they wouldn’t help an old man. Your eyes were kind and I knew that you would help me. Thank you for the ride.” The fourth rider, President Thomas Jefferson smiled at the man and then rode on towards his home.
After reading that story I prayed to God. I asked Him to help me to nurture the goodness in my own heart. I asked Him to help me to develop a caring soul and a giving spirit. I asked Him to fill me with His love so that anyone who looks into my eyes will find them kind. I am sure too that when Thomas Jefferson entered into the light of Heaven the angels were cheering. They were cheering not because he had been President of the United States. They were cheering instead for every ride he gave, kindness he shared, and good thing he did in his life here.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Proverbs 16:18-20 “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.”
Romans 12:15-18 “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
Galatians 6:9-10 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
Hebrews 6:10 “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward His Name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
Colossians 3:23-25 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.”
