1393rd -- Dropping The Snake

Every day that we are alive on this earth we learn something new that we did not know before. Life is always teaching us lessons that are meant to enlighten us, strengthen us and prepare us for a better and brighter tomorrow. Seeing that life is all about learning, growing and becoming better we should always be quick to forgive the hurts of the past so that we may allow our life to move forward without any hindrances or limitations. I say hindrances and limitations because when we hold on to unforgiveness we are in essence tying the hands of Almighty God from allowing His blessings to flow freely into and through our life. We must remind ourselves that the believer’s main objective in life is to be a living witness to the goodness, mercy and favor of God and when we act as He acts our life will be a direct reflection of the Lord. The Bible declares in 1 John 4:7-8 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” Loving others as God loves them means that we forgive peoples trespasses just as God forgives ours, we love others unconditionally just as God loves us and we offer mercy even when it is not deserved just as God does for us. (Proverbs 4:5-9) (Romans 12:1-15)

We all wish to live a blessed and favored life and I believe to do so we must follow the commands of the Lord who declares that we must offer forgiveness, mercy, grace, love and be helpful whenever we have the opportunity to do so. A legacy of love will never be forgotten. A life lived in service will always be a life well lived and loving others as we would want to be loved will always draw people towards us and never push them away. Let us remember that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God more times than we can count and if God mercifully and graciously offers us forgiveness, then who are we not to do the same towards those who have sinned against us? If we are being honest then we know we must forgive so that our life may continue to be blessed by the Lord and led down the righteous path that leads to life everlasting. (Matthew 18:21-35) (Romans 3:23-26)

Be encouraged to always elevate your life by doing the right things that will bring blessings, favor and opportunity that will be beneficial for you now and in your future to come. Be a person of love and forgiveness towards everyone. Keep your eyes focused on the Lord, do all that is right so that your life will always be looked upon as a shining Beacon of hope and love that all will be drawn to and wish to emulate. Looking past our past and focusing more on our unhindered future we will be encouraged, blessed, favored and used in a mighty way that will make us glad to be in God’s perfect will. (Galatians 6:1-10) (John 6:38)

I hope this message ministers to your heart to never allow anger or strife to take root in your heart because it will only hinder your life and keep it from reaching the Heights of Victory that God wishes for you to stand upon.

DROPPING THE SNAKE

It was a glorious day to be out for a drive. The trees lining the country roads were full of green leaves. White daisies were blooming along the sides of the hills. The sun was shining, giving the whole world a golden glow. My son and I were singing along to songs playing on the radio. Suddenly, an old favorite of mine came on and my son whose memory is far better than mine at times reminded me that we had once had it on cassette, but it was stolen from our car.

Quick as lightening that old memory flashed in my mind. It was 12 years ago. We had just finished shopping at a local grocery store, and when we walked out to our car we found that our cassette box, full of tapes had been taken from it while we were inside. I laughed when I thought of some young boys thinking they had stolen some great new music only to open the box and find instead my collection of moldy oldies.

I even tried to share my humor at the incident with a few friends, but had to stop. They all expected me to be angry and outraged over it instead of just laughing it off. They just couldn’t understand my peace with the theft. I, however, remembered an old saying that I had read once. It went, “If someone hands you a snake, it is wise to drop it fast.”

God doesn’t want us to carry those snakes around with us. God wants us to drop them and move on. God wants us to forgive and to smile. God wants us to let go and to heal. God loves us and wants us to love as well. God wants us to go through life lightly with laughter on our lips, a joy in our step, and the peace of Heaven in our hearts. The next time then that someone hands you something poisonous don’t hold it close. Drop it fast. Then you can spend your day happily holding your loved one’s hand, smelling the flowers along the side of the hill, watching the sun shine down on the leaves, and letting your own spirit sing.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

1 Thessalonians 5:11-14 “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves. Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.”

1 John 3:16-19 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.”

1 John 4:10-12 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.”

Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him My salvation.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
