1461st -- Message On Being Grateful

It is important in life that we always have an attitude of gratitude no matter what may be going wrong at any given time. Keeping a good attitude in the midst of trouble is how we can see past the difficulty while knowing that we will become better because of the difficulty. Keeping our eyes of faith focused and lifted up to the Lord shows the enemy that we will not be moved no matter what may come our way and no matter how bad the report may be right now. Our God is able to deliver us, set us free even while He strengthens us and assures us that all will be well in the end. I think of the faithfulness of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who refused to bow down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up for the people to worship. They told the King that they would not worship the golden image even though they were told they would be thrown into a fiery furnace if they refused, but their faith was so strong in the Lord it gave them the courage to refuse regardless of the circumstances. King Nebuchadnezzar was so infuriated at their rebelliousness that he ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than it would normally be and then the king had the three men tied up and thrown into the fiery furnace, but they did not burn, they were not harmed and even the smell of smoke was not on their clothing when they came out of the fiery furnace. That was God in action showing how Mighty He really is. (1 Samuel 15:22-23) (Daniel 3:8-30)

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were faithful to the Lord despite facing certain death and because they did not waver in their faith, they were promoted by King Nebuchadnezzar after he saw the power of their true and living God. That is how we should be in our walk with the Lord. We should be faith filled despite our circumstances while giving praise, glory and honor to the Lord with thanksgiving knowing that our latter end will be much greater than our meager beginnings. The Bible admonishes us in Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” When we are in communion with the Lord our hearts will be calmed and our minds will be put at rest. We don’t have to fear the unknown because God knows the end from the beginning. We don’t need to worry about the bad report because our God specializes in doing the impossible. (Isaiah 59:1) (Isaiah 46:9-12)

By having confidence in God’s ability to sustain us we can go through life with a cheerful countenance because we already know that all will be well with us. The trade-offs are quite significant and in our favor if we walk according to God’s statutes. When we trust the Lord we will know that all things will work together for our good in the end. No matter how bad the storms may rage and no matter how dark the tunnel may presently be, we know that there will be sunshine after the rain and there will be light after we come out of the tunnel. That is why having a positive and faith filled attitude is vitally important because we will have the forethought that our victory lies ahead of us. The Bible declares in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” This Scripture says rejoice always. Always means in the good, in the bad, at the mountaintop and in the valley rejoice because God is still on the Throne and from His vantage point all is well. That same Scripture also says to give thanks in everything. We are to give thanks when the report is good, when the report is bad, when we are in laughter and when we are in tears. Giving thanks is a state of mind because we must choose to see our glass half-full and not half empty. (Isaiah 26:3-4) (Psalm 118:4-9)

I encourage you wholeheartedly to keep a good attitude in life. Be thankful for all that you have been given, see how blessed and favored you are right now and think back over your life seeing the many blessings that God has already graced you with. I believe it is when we think back over our life and remember the many instances that we triumphed, overcame and became better because of the difficulties that we can now be grateful to God for being with us, for helping us and for never leaving us nor forsaking us. God is good my friend; the sooner we realize this truth the quicker we will be in calling upon the Lord and receiving every good and perfect gift that He has prepared for us. (James 1:17-18)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Psalm 100:1-5 “Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.”

James 1:17-18 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of His own will begat He us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.”

Isaiah 55:6-7 “Seek ye the LORD while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”

Romans 8:16-18 “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with Him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

Psalm 37:3-6 “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
