We should always do our best to lighten the burden of our fellow man just as we would want someone to be helping towards us in our time of need. When we take the initiative to be helpful, to be a blessing, to minister to or encourage one who is struggling, we will be shining a light upon their life letting them know that someone else cares for their well-being and wishes to see them come out of their situation better, wiser and stronger than they were before. The Bible tells us to bear one another’s burdens, to be helpful to the widows and the fatherless, to treat others as we would want to be treated and to offer love and charity at every opportunity that comes our way. When we believe God’s Word and take the initiative to follow His command, I believe our simple life will be used in extraordinary ways and the ripple effects that we create by our good works will continue on far longer than we can ever think or imagine ourselves. That is the power of doing good; it never ends with us because it inspires the recipient, it challenges the passerby and it shows all who hear of our good works that it is good to be a blessing to our fellow man. (Galatians 6:9-10) (Luke 6:31)
If we take a moment to think about the many times that we were helped in our own life we will quickly see that those good works that we received were not forgotten, but are appreciated and we are thankful for them even if they occurred many years before. I can attest to be thankful for blessings that my friends bestowed upon me 20 years ago. I still remember them, I’m still thankful for them and I still pray for them at every remembrance of their good works in my life. That is how we should think when we are the fortunate ones able to be a blessing to our fellow man. We will be building a legacy of love, hope, gladness and joy that will live on in the hearts and minds of those whom we were fortunate enough to cross paths with and our good works will live on long past the time that it took for us to intervene. (Philippians 2:2-8) (2 Corinthians 9:6-9)
May we put away the busyness of life for just a moment or two when we see the opportunity to be a blessing so that at the end of that day we can look back and be glad that we were fortunate enough to lift someone up, to encourage someone’s heart and to let them know that God loves them and so do we. If we can do that on a daily basis, we will have been the most fortunate of people that have ever lived on this earth. (Matthew 5:14-16) (1 John 4:12-13)
I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to be sensitive to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit so that you may obey and follow His leading when the opportunity to be a blessing comes your way.
LISTENING TO OUR BETTER ANGELS
I was driving my daughter home from college for the weekend on a Fall Friday afternoon. The air was warm, the sun was shining, the sky was clear, and God’s paintbrush had just begun to color the mountains of my home. Spectacular reds, yellows, and oranges glowed from the trees and kept a smile glowing on my own face as we drove up the narrow mountain road. As I rounded a curve I saw an old gentleman who I knew didn’t own a car walking the way we were going. I was happy then to give him a lift since it was on our way home.
Two days later I was driving up the same road on a Sunday afternoon after taking my daughter back to college. A cold rain was falling from an overcast sky and the fallen leaves on the road were slick and caused me to drive extra slow. As I neared the top of the mountain road I noticed the same old gentleman only this time headed back down the mountain. He smiled and waved as we drove by and at that very moment I heard one of my better angels whispering in my ear. I listened to the gentle voice telling my heart what to do, turned my car around, and gave that kind, old man a ride back down the road. I shook his hand, accepted his thanks, and headed home.
The trip cost me 20 minutes of my time and maybe a gallon of gas. The peace that filled my heart, though, was worth all the money in the world. I drove home singing along with the radio, wrapped in a blanket of love and joy, and surrounded by all of my better angels.
We all should listen to our better angels. We all should pay heed to those quiet voices we hear in our hearts, souls, and minds. They are a guide for good and the guidance of God. They help us to help others and ourselves. They fill us with the peace of knowing that we are living as God’s Children in this world. How do we recognize these angels? They are always the voices of love and they always lead us to joy. Listen closely then. Heaven may be speaking to your heart.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:
John 15:11-13 Jesus says “These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is My commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Romans 12:15-18 “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.”
Galatians 6:9-10 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”
Colossians 3:23-25 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.”
