This is a good story that reminds me I will get out of life whatever I put
into it. I hope you enjoy the story.
WORK FROM YOUR HEART
An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer contractor
of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more
leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family.
He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by.
The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could
build just one more house as a personal favor.
The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was
not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior
materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.
When the carpenter finished his work the employer came to inspect the
house. He handed the front-door key to the carpenter. This is your
house, he said, 'my gift to you.' The carpenter was shocked! What a shame!
If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it
all so differently.
So it is with us.
We build our lives, a day at a time, often putting less than our best into
the building. Then with a shock we realize we have to live in the house we
have built.
If we could do it over, we'd do it much differently. But we cannot go back.
You are the carpenter.
Each day you hammer a nail, place a board, or erect a wall. Life is a
do-it-yourself project, someone has said. Your attitudes and the choices
you make today, build the 'house' you live in tomorrow.
Build wisely!
We are to do good works and do them unto the Lord. Jesus did miracles
when He was on earth to both heal the sick and also that the skeptic might
believe that He is the Son of God. And so with us, we are to let our
light shine before all people that they may know in whom we believe and
trust. The Lord Jesus Christ.
Read and meditate on these scriptures.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Do you not know that your body is the temple of
the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not
your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your
body and in your spirit, which are God's."
Colossians 3:23-24, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as
working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an
inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are
serving."
Matthew 5:14-16, "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden. "Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a
basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the
house. "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good
works and glorify your Father in heaven." NKJV
