There are moments in our life when we don't take advantage of the
privileges that God has bestowed upon us. Concerning missed blessings, I
think of the great wealth God's Holy Word has to offer and yet many times
we don't take the time to read the Bible and receive all that it has for
us. We need to remember that the Bible is not like other books. God's
Word is alive and has power to change you from the inside out. It is a
Book inspired and breathed to life by God Almighty. It can encourage you,
inspire you, teach you, challenge you, heal you, strengthen you and calm
your heart beyond compare to anything else. If you haven't been reading
your Bible lately, then I encourage you to start today and discover its
many benefits for yourself. (Joshua 1:8) (2 Timothy 3:16) (1 Peter 1:24-25)
This is a good message that shows the Bible taking a narrative. As you
read this message, I want you to think about your Bible and how available
you make yourself to it. I pray this message challenges your heart to
invest more time reading God's Word because the benefits greatly outweigh
the time invested.
DIARY OF A BIBLE
JANUARY:
A busy time for me. Most of the family decided to read me through this
year. They kept me busy for the first two weeks, but they have forgotten
me now.
FEBRUARY:
Clean-up time. I was dusted yesterday and put in my place. My owner did
use me for a few minutes last week. He had been in an argument and was
looking up some references to prove he was right.
MARCH:
Had a busy day first of the month. My owner was elected president of the
PTA & used me to prepare a speech.
APRIL:
Grandpa visited us this month. He kept me on his lap for an hour reading
from 1 Peter 5:5-7. He seems to think more of me than do some people in
my own household.
MAY:
I have a few green stains on my pages. Some spring flowers were pressed in
my pages.
JUNE:
I look like a scrapbook. They have stuffed me full of newspaper clippings
- one of the girls got married.
JULY:
They put me in a suitcase today. I guess we are off on vacation. I wish I
could stay home; I know I'll be closed up in this thing for at least two
weeks.
AUGUST:
Still in the suitcase.
SEPTEMBER:
Back home at last and in my old familiar place. I have a lot of company.
Two women's magazines and four comic books are stacked on top of me. I wish
I could be read as much as they are.
OCTOBER:
They read me a little bit today. One of them is very sick. Right now I am
sitting in the center of the coffee table. I think the Pastor is coming by
for a visit.
NOVEMBER:
Back in my old place. Somebody asked today if I were a scrapbook.
DECEMBER:
The family is busy getting ready for the holidays. I guess I'll be covered
up under wrapping paper & packages again...just as I am every Christmas.

It is a great privilege that we should have such a precious Book at our
fingertips. God has not given us His Word for His benefit, but rather has
made it available for us so that we might learn of His ways and receive
the blessings that He has promised throughout the scriptures. We need to
remind ourselves that there is healing, prosperity, peace, strength and
wisdom that is available to us any time we open up and read the Holy Bible.
We should never look at reading the Bible as a chore, but rather we are to
do it with a renewed excitement in knowing that we will receive wisdom,
insight and understanding that is beyond anything this world can offer.
(Psalm 119:10-18) (Psalm 119:92-106) (Proverbs 4:4-10) (Proverbs 16:16)
I encourage you to make a scheduled time to read your Bible everyday if you
haven't already. Make a commitment to the Lord that you'll invest the same
time everyday reading His Word, and when you do ask the Holy Spirit to
teach you and open your understanding so that wisdom can take rule in your
heart and lead your life onto the best path possible as God has predestined
before the foundation of the world. I truly believe making this request
before the Lord will please Him and in return bless you in ways that you
never thought possible. (2 Timothy 2:15) (Ephesians 1:3-9) (Psalm 91:14-16)
Read and meditate on these scriptures:
2 Timothy 3:15-17 "You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood,
and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by
trusting in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to
teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It
straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way of
preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants
us to do."
Psalm 119:103-106 "How sweet are your words to my taste; they are sweeter
than honey. Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every
false way of life. Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.
I've promised it once, and I'll promise again: I will obey your wonderful
laws."
Proverbs 4:5-10 "Learn to be wise, and develop good judgment. Don't forget
or turn away from my words. Don't turn your back on wisdom, for she will
protect you. Love her, and she will guard you. Getting wisdom is the most
important thing you can do! And whatever else you do, get good judgment. If
you prize wisdom, she will exalt you. Embrace her and she will honor you.
She will place a lovely wreath on your head; she will present you with a
beautiful crown." My child, listen to me and do as I say, and you will have
a long, good life."
All scriptures can be found in the New Living Translation.
