258th -- Answered Prayers

It is a great privilege to be an intercessor on behalf of someone else.
There are many moments when we think our prayers don't make a difference
and so we become lazy in praying for others. The Bible says that we are
to pray without ceasing. We need to get this revelation that our prayers
greatly impact this world and whether we realize it or not, we have the
power of the living God available to us for ourselves as well as for others
through the power of prayer. (1 Thessalonians 5:17) (Ephesians 6:18)

I hope you are blessed by this simple story that shows how the prayers of
others greatly impact our own life. I hope this story inspires and
challenges you to continually pray for those around you and ask for God's
blessings to be upon them.

ANSWERED PRAYERS

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men
on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island.

The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no
other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was
more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay
on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man
saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat
its fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife.
The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman
who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there
was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes and more food. The next day,
like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still
had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife would
leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of
the island.

The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the
second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive
God's blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered. As the ship
was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why
are you leaving your companion on the island?"

"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them," the
first man answered. "His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not
deserve anything."

"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him. "He had only one prayer, which I
answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings."

"Tell me," the first man asked the voice, "What did he pray for that I
should owe him anything?"

"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."

Only by praying for one another can we truly be called the Children of God.
We are to lift one another up before the Lord and ask for God's blessings
and protection to be with those that we love and care for. Prayer should
also be directed for God's divine will to come to pass without any
successful hindrances of the enemy. The Bible states in many different
scriptures that prayer changes things and so we must take God at His word
and recognize how powerful our prayers really are.
(Hebrews 13:18) (1 Peter 3:12) (2 Thessalonians 3:1) (Daniel 10:12-14)

I encourage you to get into a routine of praying for those around you.
Pray for God's protection and blessing upon your family and friends. Pray
for God's direction for this country, the United States and if you live in
a different country, pray for the leadership of your government that God
may lead them on to the best paths that He sees fit. (Hebrews 13:7)

Never allow the enemy to discourage your heart from prayer. The devil knows
the power that each believer possesses in prayer and he will try everything
he knows to keep us busy and forgetful concerning spending time alone with
the Lord. Show this defeated enemy that you are determined in seeing God's
best come to pass for yourself as well as for those around you.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

James 5:13-16 "Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let
him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the
church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of
the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall
raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may
be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

Philippians 4:6-7 "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

2 Chronicles 7:14-15 "If My people, which are called by My name, shall
humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked
ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will
heal their land. Now Mine eyes shall be open, and Mine ears attent unto
the prayer that is made in this place."

All scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
