We should never allow this world to bring down our spirits or make us
question the promises of the Lord. Recently while I was reading my Bible,
I noticed something new in a scripture that I have read many times before.
The Bible declares in Proverbs 10:22, "The blessing of the Lord, it maketh
rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it." The word I noticed differently that
I had seen many times before was the word Blessing. It is not written in
plural form as blessings, but written in singular form, blessing. The fact
that I realized was God gives us everything in His blessing. The blessing
of the Lord encapsulates every good and perfect gift that God has to offer
us. (James 1:16-17)
When we ask the Lord for His blessing in our life, we receive every one of
God's promises. In God's blessing, there is healing, strengthening,
enriching, comfort, peace and rest. Be strong in the Lord and know that
His blessing is all you need in your life.
I hope you enjoy today's story that has a humorous twist to God's blessing.
GOODNESS FOLLOWS YOU
Timmy was a little five year old boy that his Mom loved very much and,
being a worrier, she was concerned about him walking to school when he
started Kindergarten. She walked him to school a couple of days but when
he came home one day, he told his mother that he did not want her walking
him to school everyday. He wanted to be like the big boys. He protested
loudly, so she had an idea of how to handle it.
She asked a neighbor, Mrs. Goodnest, if she would surreptitiously follow
her son to school, at a distance behind him that he would not likely
notice, but close enough to keep a watch on him. Mrs. Goodnest said that
since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for
them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.
The next school day, Mrs. Goodnest and her little girl, Marcy, set out
following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighborhood boy
he knew. She did this for the whole week.
As the boys walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs, the little friend
of Timmy noticed that this same lady was following them as she seemed to do
every day all week. Finally, he said to Timmy, "Have you noticed that lady
following us all week? Do you know her?"
Timmy nonchalantly replied, "Yea, I know who she is."
The little friend said, "Well who is she?"
"That's just Shirley Goodnest", Timmy said.
"Shirley Goodnest? Who the heck is she and why is she following us?"
Well, Timmy explained, every night my Mom makes me say the 23rd Psalm with
my prayers because she worries about me so much. And in it, the prayer
psalm says, Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my
life, so I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

Be encouraged and know that God wishes to bless you so much that you will
not have enough room to receive every gift that He's bestowed. I encourage
you to obey God's laws and commandments so that His blessing will freely
flow through your life to both bless you and make you a blessing towards
those fortunate enough to be around you. (Malachi 3:10) (Deuteronomy 28:1-6)
Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Psalm 37:23-26 "The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and He
delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down:
for the LORD upholdeth him with His hand. I have been young, and now am
old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging
bread. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed."
Psalm 27:7-9 "Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon
me, and answer me. When Thou saidst, Seek ye My face; my heart said unto
Thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek. Hide not Thy face far from me; put not
Thy servant away in anger: Thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither
forsake me, O God of my salvation."
1 Chronicles 4:10 "And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that
Thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that Thine hand
might be with me, and that Thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not
grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
Psalm 23:1-4 "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to
lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He
restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His
name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they
comfort me."
