I
hope you are doing well and in the best of health. I was listening
to a
minister recently and he was speaking on the most important thing
a person
can do in their lifetime. His message of course was on accepting
the free
gift of Salvation through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. I began
thinking
about how true this is since in life we never know when our time
on earth
will end.
I began thinking about the story and tragic ending of the Titanic,
which
is the ship that was deemed unsinkable, yet after 4 days into her
maiden
voyage, the unsinkable ship hit an iceberg and sank in less than 3
hours.
This happened on April 15th, 1912 and up until that date, the ship
was
considered the greatest achievement ever created by the hand of
man. It
took over 15,000 men to build the ship and more than 3 years to
complete.
The maiden voyage lured the "very best people:" British
nobility, American
industrialists, the very cream of New York and Philadelphia
society. It
also attracted many poor emigrants, hoping to start a new life in
America
or Canada. It was recorded as the most luxurious ship ever built
and had
some of the most important people of that time on board.
On April 14, 1912, only 3 days after leaving Southampton England
on her way
to the United States, the Titanic hit an iceberg on the starboard
side
which caused a series of gashes below the waterline in the storage
compartments, which filled with water and eventually caused the
ship to
sink. In the end, there were only 705 survivors out of the 2228
that
boarded only days earlier.
When the news of the Titanic's sinking reached town, people only
wanted to
know one thing; how many people were rescued and how many people
were lost.
It did not matter about their possessions or net worth or how many
letters
of achievement they had after their name. The only thing that
mattered
was; how many were "saved" and how many were
"lost".
This is the point I wanted to make about this message. When our
life on
earth is said and done, it will not matter how much money we have
in our
bank account or the number of accomplishments we achieved. The
only thing
that matters when we stand before God is; are we saved because of
our
belief and confession in the Lord Jesus Christ, or are we lost
because we
never made time to make Jesus the Lord of our life.
Only through Jesus Christ can we make it to heaven, for the Bible
declares
in Acts 4:12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there
is no other
name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved".
We cannot go
to heaven because we do good things or because we are good people
because
if this were the case then Christ died in vain. (Galatians 2:21)
Our good works cannot save us for the Bible declares in Isaiah
64:6 "But we
are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like
filthy
rags…" We could never measure up to God's standards, but
the good news is;
Jesus came to earth and willfully gave His life for you and I and
all we
need to do is trust in Him and the work that He completed on the
cross for
all mankind. (John 19:30)
I encourage you to make Jesus the Lord of your life if you haven't
already.
There is no difference in color or nationality. Jesus is able to
save and
deliver all who call upon His name. I want you to know there is
Joy in
heaven because of one sinner that repents and the angel's of God
rejoice
over that soul that has been saved, so never think God does not
care about
you or that you are so bad that God will not forgive you. He will
forgive
each of us, but we must ask for His forgiveness. (Luke 15:10)
(Romans 10:12-13)
Just as the Titanic was deemed unsinkable and was promised to be
afloat
forever, many people go through life thinking there is time to get
right
with God and serve the Lord after all the fun has been fulfilled,
but that
is a trick of the enemy. He will do anything to try to postpone
your
decision for Christ, so be alert of his evil devices and know that
today is
the accepted time for salvation as the Bible declares in 2
Corinthians 6:2
"…Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day
of salvation."
Read and meditate on these scriptures and know that God will
forgive you
and receive you unto Himself:
Ezekiel 33:11 "Say to them: 'As I live,' says the Lord GOD,
'I have no
pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from
his way
and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you
die...?'"
1 John 1:9-10 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
just to forgive
us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say
that we
have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in
us."
Isaiah 55:6-7 "Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon
Him while He
is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man
his
thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on
him; And to
our God, For He will abundantly pardon."
Romans 10:9-10 "…If you confess with your mouth the Lord
Jesus and believe
in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be
saved. For
with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation."
1 John 5:11-13 "And this is the testimony: that God has given
us eternal
life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he
who does
not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have
written to
you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know
that you
have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the
name of the
Son of God."
