468th -- A Promise To A Flower

There are moments in life when we become discouraged for one reason or
another and forget how truly special we are to God. The Lord who created
us made each of us special and unique with gifts and talents that no one
else possesses. Each one of us is an original created by the Master's
hands and we are to stand in who God created us to be. No matter the
hardships that come our way, we are to remember who we are in Christ and
know that we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. The Bible
declares in Psalm 139:17-18 “How precious also are Thy thoughts unto me, O
God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more
in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with Thee.” He loves you
with an everlasting love and wishes that your Joy may be full. (Psalm 17:5-8)

I hope you are blessed by today's message to stand strong in your walk with
the Lord and know that you are very special to Him.

A PROMISE TO A FLOWER

Walking along the roadway this afternoon I looked down. There along the
edge I saw them. Tiny, intricate flowers woven through the grass. I can
almost guarantee that they went unnoticed until today. But I saw them and
I was taken by their beauty.

“I should pick one and finish my walk just thinking about it,” I said out
loud. “But there are only five of them and picking it would mean it would
soon die.”

I stooped down closer to the flower and grasping it between my fingers I
said, “If I leave you here you will live and die and no one will ever
realize your beauty. I promise you that if I take you with me back to the
meeting room I will share you with everyone I meet.”

I simply plucked the clover-like stem enough to include the flower and some
of its greenery.

Now, holding it closer, I could see the incredible detail. The orange
petals were accented with yellow edging. The center of the flower was a
deep red. It is not more than one quarter inch in diameter, but there is a
world within that tiny space.

As soon as I walked in the meeting room, I introduced my treasure to the
people seated at my table.

“I made a promise to this flower that if I picked it, I would share it with
everyone. Look at the detail and beauty of this creation,” I said.

“Ooo's” and “ahhh's” floated effortlessly from everyone who saw it.

Seeing that it was quickly slumping, drooping over, I placed it in my glass
of water hoping to revive it.

When the meeting ended I held the plastic cup carefully in my hand as if it
were precious crystal. I planned to take it home to my wife.

In the beginning it looked hopelessly lost. Floating face down, it looked
like the end had come all too soon.

I had indeed kept my promise, but now I felt sad, for if I had not picked
it, it would have lived its full cycle untouched, but unappreciated.

But little flowers bring little miracles.

By the time I got home 90 minutes later, the flower had fully recovered.
Now floating face up like a pond lily, the plant looked as strong as ever.

As night came the flower closed up tightly, as some flowers do. I have
placed it in the window in my kitchen with hopes of seeing it in full bloom
tomorrow morning.

Turning to my wife I asked, “I can understand why God would take a large
flower and dazzle us with details. But why would he spend so much effort on
such a tiny flower that no one would likely see?”

Pausing for a moment, thinking about what I asked, she finally said, “But
God also created people like you who would make a promise to a flower.”

Be encouraged and know that you are very special to God and you possess
qualities that are needed for the betterment of those around you. Never
think about giving up, but rather stand steadfast and know that with God
you are well-equipped to handle any situation that comes your way.

Remember that if God be for you, who can dare to be against you? The Lord
who made you, loved you, called you, and saved you will be with you all the
days of your life. (Romans 8:33-39) (Ephesians 6:10-14) (Jeremiah 31:3)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Psalm 8:3-5 “When I consider Thy heavens, the work of Thy fingers, the moon
and the stars, which Thou hast ordained; What is man, that Thou art mindful
of him? and the son of man, that Thou visitest him? For Thou hast made him
a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.”

Romans 8:35-37 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day
long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these
things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.”

Jeremiah 31:3 “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have
loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I
drawn thee.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
