This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in
it. No matter how good or bad your day may be, smile and thank the Lord
for all that you have. I know it is not always easy to be thankful when
things seem to be going wrong, but in spite of that, show your faith
strong and let the Lord know you will trust and believe that He has your
best interest in mind. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 declares "In every thing give
thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."
This is a great poem that reminded me to always be mindful of my words and
actions toward others because the moment I let them go, they will have an
effect on someone else either good or bad. I hope you will be blessed by
this poem and remember to be mindful of the pebbles that you drop in the
water of life.
PEBBLE IN THE WATER
Drop a pebble in the water,
just a splash, and it's gone;
But there's half a hundred ripples
circling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center,
flowing on out to sea.
And there is no way of telling
where the end is going to be.
Drop a pebble in the water;
in a minute you will forget,
But there's little waves a-flowing
and there's ripples circling yet,
And those little waves a-flowing
to a great big wave have grown;
You've disturbed a mighty river
just by dropping in a stone.
Drop an unkind or careless word:
in a minute it is gone;
But there's half a hundred ripples
circling on and on and on,
They keep spreading, spreading,
spreading from the center as they go,
And there is no way to stop them,
once you've started the flow.
Drop an unkind or careless word:
in a minute you forget;
But there's little waves a-flowing,
and there's ripples circling yet.
And perhaps in some sad heart
a mighty wave of tears you've stirred,
And disturbed a life that was happy
where you dropped that unkind word.
Drop a word of cheer and kindness:
just a flash and it is gone;
But there is half a hundred ripples
circling on and on and on,
Bearing hope and joy and comfort
on each splashing, dashing wave,
Till you wouldn't believe the volume
of the one kind word you gave.
Drop a word of cheer and kindness:
in a minute you will forget;
But there's gladness still a-swelling,
and there's joy circling yet.
And you've rolled a wave of comfort
whose sweet music can be heard,
Over miles and miles of water
just by dropping one kind word.

I enjoyed this poem for many reasons but mainly because it reminded me
that my words do not end when I finish speaking them, but they go on and
on to either bless or discourage someone else. For example, if I am
feeling down or discouraged and a family members tells me that I did a
good job at a particular task, that will encourage me from the inside out
and in essence affect the way I treat others. It is a ripple effect that
goes from one person to another just as the poem describes.
I encourage and challenge you to let your ripples be that of encouraging
and lifting others up. What you do for one person will not end with that
person but will be passed on to others, just as you passed a blessing or
kind gesture on to someone else.
Read and meditate on these scriptures:
John 13:34-35 Jesus says "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love
one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this
shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to
another."
Galatians 6:9-10 "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season
we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us
do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of
faith."
Luke 6:35-36 Jesus says "But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend,
hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be
the children of the Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the
evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful."
