There are moments in life when we should take time to think about our
legacy. When our time on earth comes to an end, what will we be remembered
for? Will we be thought upon fondly or will our life's work quickly fade
from the memory of those who knew us? It is important to think about how
we are spending our life. As long as it may seem right now, it will pass
us by all too quickly and we will wonder where the time went. That is all
the more reason that we should realize how fleeting life is and do our best
to make a difference where our life will be remembered and thought upon
long after we are gone. (James 4:14) (2 Corinthians 4:18) (James 1:27)
How do we make a difference? We do so by living a life of integrity, by
caring for those in need and by loving our neighbor as we love ourselves.
Being selfish and only wanting for our own well-being will leave us feeling
very empty and very alone, but by wanting the best for others and doing
all that we can to ensure they become better will fill us with a joy that
is unspeakable. I like the simple quote that says “givers gain” because I
believe those who give are more blessed than the recipients themselves.
The Bible says that we will reap what we sow. Whatever we put into the
ground whether good or bad will come back to us one day to either bless
our life or curse our life. What we do today determines what we will reap
in our tomorrows. (Proverbs 20:7) (Matthew 5:16) (1 Thessalonians 5:11-14)
Be encouraged to do all that you can to be a blessing to those around
you. Be someone's shoulder who can lean upon you. Give of your time to
encourage or uplift those who are feeling down and discouraged. Keep your
word when you say you're going to do something and do it with all of your
heart. Always remember that it is in giving to others that we gain the
most and it is in blessing others that we become the most blessed. That's
how God works. He asks us to give a little and when we do, He returns to
us much more than we gave. By being givers while we are alive, others
will be impacted and inspired to follow in our path and continue what we
started long after we are gone. That is a legacy that we can each aspire
to possess. (Luke 6:30-36) (2 Corinthians 9:7)
I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to all that you can
to be a giver in life. That is God's way to ensure a blessed and
fulfilled life.
A DROP IN THE OCEAN
I was in the post office the other day waiting to mail out a few letters.
As the line moved slowly forward I chatted with the woman in front of me.
She was carrying a large package that she was mailing to her daughter who
lived on the other side of the country. It was clear from her voice too
just how much she loved and missed her girl.
When it was finally her turn she slowly but happily counted out her money
for the postage. Her smile faded; however, as she discovered that she
didn’t have enough cash with her to mail out the package. Quickly, I
reached into my own pocket and got the extra change she needed. It was
only a few coins but the smile and thanks she gave me in return were
priceless treasures. I left that post office with a smiling face and a
happy heart.
Now I know that my little act of kindness was only a tiny drop compared to
the vast ocean of God’s love. Still, over the years I have come to see
that in the eyes of Heaven every single drop counts. Every kind act, every
caring smile, every loving thought, and every helping hand adds to the
ocean of God’s love here. Every single drop makes it greater.
Every little thing we do in this life is important. Every little thing we
do makes a difference. Drop by drop God wants us to add to the endless
waters of His love that wash over this world. Start today then. Give the
world the gift of your smile. Share a laugh with your friends. Give your
loved ones a heartfelt hug. Open a door for a stranger. Give a few coins
to a person in need. Pass on a friendly wave, a bit of good news, or a
positive thought. Shower people with your kindness and love. Help everyone
you can every chance you can. Sow a few seeds of joy in the Winter even if
you won’t get to see them bloom in the Spring. Keep adding to your drops
of love until they become a river that flows joyously back into Heaven’s sea.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Matthew 25:37-40 Jesus declares “Then shall the righteous answer Him,
saying, Lord, when saw we Thee an hungred, and fed Thee? or thirsty, and
gave Thee drink? When saw we Thee a stranger, and took Thee in? or naked,
and clothed Thee? Or when saw we Thee sick, or in prison, and came unto
Thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye
have done it unto Me.”
1 John 4:10-12 “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved
us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God
so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at
any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is
perfected in us.”
1 Peter 3:10-12 “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him
refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let
him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the
eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their
prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.”
Philippians 4:8-9 “Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever
things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if
there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen
in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.”
