There are many moments in life when we find ourselves discouraged or
downhearted because we focus so much on the physical aspects of life. We
look at what we don't have and we find reasons to murmur and complain. We
look at our jobs and we wish we had a better position, we look at our
finances and we wish we had more in the bank, we look at our health and we
wish our situation was better than it is. Our problem isn't in looking at
what we don't have, our problem lies in forgetting what we do have. We
don't take the time to see the abundance that God has given us. We don't
focus on the love that our family gives us which many are not lucky enough
to have. We don't see that we had enough food to eat today while many are
not as fortunate. We don't realize that the clothes on our back, the roof
over our head, the car that we drive are blessings that should be thought
upon and shown appreciation for. It is in focusing on our blessings that
we see how rich we truly are. Our bank accounts do not need to be full
for us to be happy and content. We simply must realize that many are not
as fortunate as we are. Our gratitude needs to increase because our
abundance is much more than we realize.
Be encouraged to focus on what you do have. Think of your children, your
spouse, your parents, your siblings and your friends. Be thankful for
your health, your home, your job. See your many blessings. Be thankful
for your legs, your arms, your eyes, your ears. Be glad for the abundance
of blessed memories that you can think upon at any time, memories that
encourage our hearts, that make us smile and laugh, memories that rekindle
hope, memories that bring joy, memories that remind us how loved we are
now and have been in times past. See your riches. Focus on your
blessings. Do not allow yourself to murmur and complain about the
temporary trials in your path. They are not here to stay. What we must
remember is that in the end, those trials will make us better, wiser and
stronger than we were before them and they will serve a purpose to better
our future.
Remember it is in blessing our today despite its hardships, discouragements
and setbacks that we can look for tomorrow with hope. Be encouraged again
to bless your days with your words and with your acts. See your glass as
half-full and never as half-empty. The Lord is with you and has never
left your side. Thank Him for all that He has graciously given to you.
I hope this message ministers to your heart to focus on the blessings
before you. By seeing the good, we will minimize the bad that is only
temporary in nature.
OUR GREATEST BLESSINGS ARE FREE
I was doing my monthly bills again recently. The stack was huge, so I took
a moment to enjoy the balance at the top of the page. Then I clutched my
pen and started to write check after check to pay bill after bill while
the balance got smaller and smaller with each one.
I finally finished and looked at what was left. The ending balance wasn’t
much. It amazed me just how much everything costs these days. I looked
down again at the tiny amount left over and sighed. It was then, however,
that I felt someone behind me. I turned and saw my youngest son smiling
down on me. His handicapped mind had no concept of money, yet his gentle
spirit seemed to know that I could use his smile right then. I put my pen
down, got up from the table, and gave my boy a hug. I rested my chin on
his shoulder, patted him on the back, and thanked God one more time for
giving him to me. At that moment I felt like the richest man in the entire
world. I thanked God again for helping me to see the truth that the most
priceless thing in this whole world is free.
Love is a greater treasure than all the crown jewels that ever sat on a
Queen’s head. Love is more precious than every ounce of gold that was ever
mined from the ground. Love is more valuable than all the stocks and bonds
that Wall Street ever sold. Love is what we are here for. Love is what
life is all about. And love is free!
The next time that your pockets are empty, the next time that your bank
balance is low, the next time that you don’t have a thin dime to your name
remember that the most valuable thing in this life doesn’t cost a cent.
Love is a gift from God that we are all free to share. It brings us more
joy than all the money in the world and the more we give it away the more
of it we have in our hearts, souls, and lives.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Psalm 34:1-4 “I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall
continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the
humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and
let us exalt His name together. I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and
delivered me from all my fears.”
Isaiah 40:28-29 “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the
everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth
not, neither is weary? there is no searching of His understanding. He
giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength.”
Psalm 34:17-19 “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth
them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a
broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the
afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”
Psalm 103:1-5 “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless
His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who
redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness
and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy
youth is renewed like the eagle's.”
All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
