1059th -- Do Some Good

We should never think that we are unqualified, unable or incapable of
making an impact on this world. There are so many opportunities to be
helping that come our way, but by having a false sense of inability to be
helping, we allow those chances of being a blessing to someone else to
pass us by. What we must quickly realize is that it is simple to be a
blessing to someone in need. We simply must examine ourselves and see in
which areas we excel and apply ourselves in those areas. If we are good
with our hands then we can volunteer our time to improve our communities,
our churches, our parks etc., if we are good at encouraging and uplifting
others then we can spend time affirming, motivating and lifting up those
who are having a difficult time. If we are blessed financially then we
can give to the places that make a difference in the lives of multitudes
such as homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food banks and medical centers
who donate their time to help those who are sick and afflicted.

Making up excuses as to why we cannot be helping will leave one's soul
feeling empty and wanting, but when we do apply ourselves wholeheartedly
knowing that we did all we can do, we will feel the blessing of the Lord
knowing that we helped to take care of His beloved children. Life is
about giving and receiving, planting and harvesting. We can't always be
on the receiving end and not give back from our abundance. We must treat
others as we would like to be treated and care for them just as we hope
someone would care for us in our time of need. A quote I like says “God
will do for you what you make happen for others.” In other words we will
receive a blessing for our hearts desire when we help bring to pass
someone else's hearts' desire. See that it is to your own benefit when
you take the time for someone else. The deed that is done isn't nearly as
important as taking an interest in someone else and helping them in their
area of need.

Be encouraged to be the catalyst in which change can occur. Use the areas
in which you excel to bring others up to even greater heights. By using
your life to make a positive change in the lives of others, you are
creating a ripple effect that will continue on long after you are gone.
Having this type of impact on humanity is a legacy that we can each be
proud to call our own.

I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to see how you may
be able to be a blessing to someone else in need.

DO SOME GOOD

For many years now Church work camps full of volunteers both young and old
have been helping the poor and elderly people of this area. During the
Spring and Summer school breaks they always arrive full of eager high
school and college students under the supervision of older carpenters and
builders. They work long hours fixing leaky roofs, building porches and
wheel chair ramps, and repairing the homes of those who need it. Their
only payment is the happy smiles and grateful hearts of those they help.

Several times in the past I have helped or been helped by these wonderful
people. I will always remember one man in particular that had an infectious
enthusiasm as he worked. He was both a Church Pastor and a Master
Carpenter. He seemed to inspire all the kids working under him with his
cheerful spirit. Every day when I asked him how he was doing he would
reply, “I’m doing good!” At the end of the week as his group was preparing
to leave I looked at all the homes they had fixed and lives they had
touched and had to agree. He was “Doing Good!”

So many of us want to be doing good in our lives. But do we want to be
"Doing Good" in our lives? A nice house, a successful career, and a lot of
money might be nice to have, but they don’t compare with fixing another’s
home, helping those in need, and having treasures in Heaven. The material
things we have here are temporary but the good we do goes on for all eternity.

God loves us all so much and God put us here on Earth for a reason. I
don’t think it is to be doing good in the eyes of the world either. I
think rather that it is to do some good in the eyes of Heaven. There is no
limit to the good we can do, the love we can share, and the joy we can
spread in this life. We need only to begin to live as God meant for us to
live with compassionate hearts, caring souls, and helpful hands. Do some
good today then. You can change the world.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Matthew 5:43-45 Jesus declares
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You
shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your
enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and
pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be
sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and
on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Galatians 6:9-10 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season
we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us
do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.”

Romans 12:10-16 “Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love;
in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in
spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation;
continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints;
given to hospitality. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse
not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be
of the same mind one toward another...”

Galatians 6:1-4 “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are
spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering
thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so
fulfill the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something,
when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let every man prove his own
work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
