1277th -- The Value Of A Penny

The thing that I love about the Lord is that He never loses His peace. No matter what may be going wrong at any given time, the Lord is in control and in His sight all is well. When word was brought to the Lord Jesus that Lazarus was near death, He did not worry about the situation, but rather He used that moment to bring glory and honor to God Almighty because when Jesus went to Lazarus four days later and was told that Lazarus had died, the Lord raised him from the dead and marveled all who were near Him. When a multitude whom Jesus had been ministering to needed to be fed, the Lord did not worry about having enough food to feed them. Instead He used five loaves of bread and two fish to feed a multitude of 5000 men not including women and children. When the Lord Jesus saw a man who was blind from birth, He did not worry about the man's dilemma, but He had compassion on him and healed him of his blindness. (John 11:1-44) (Luke 9:13-17) (John 9:1-7)

This is why I believe we should be confident in the Lord God Almighty. If He has everything under control in heaven and on earth then why do we allow ourselves to worry, fear or question our life's future. We should remember the stories that are found throughout Scripture and encourage ourselves that no matter what we may go through and no matter how bleak our situation may presently seem, we can have a bold and unwavering confidence in the Lord who has promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us. Our faith should never waver and no matter how difficult the obstacle may seem, our peace should never weaken or wane. Let us hold fast our profession of faith and let us give praises to God that all is well with our soul. (Hebrews 13:5) (Hebrews 4:14-16)

I encourage you to answer every knock of fear with the confidence of faith. Allow the Lord's peace that surpasses all understanding to keep your heart and mind focused on His goodness and see your life as blessed and highly favored. Knowing that we can call upon the Lord at any time, we will allow this truth of being a blessed people to infiltrate our being and keep us at rest no matter what may come our way. Thank the Lord for His goodness that reaches beyond our greatest imagination and with a bold confidence face every challenge that comes your way as if it has already been overcome. (Philippians 4:6-7) (Psalm 103:1-5)

I hope this message encourages and inspires your heart to never doubt God's superiority, but rather allow His faithfulness from times past to keep you at peace now and in your future to come.

THE VALUE OF A PENNY

Several years ago, a friend and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. The woman was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house.

The first day and evening went well, and my friend was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants.

Knowing she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, she was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of his guests. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.

There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. “How absurd!” she thought. What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She causally mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.

A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?

“Look at it,” He said. “Read what it says.”

She read the words “United States of America.”

“No, not that; read further.”

“One cent?”

“No, keep reading.”

“In God we Trust?”

“Yes!”

“And?”

“And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!”

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, “In God We Trust,” and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Joshua 1:9 “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Psalm 104:33-34 “I will sing unto the LORD as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditation of Him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD.”

Psalm 145:10-13 “All Thy works shall praise Thee, O LORD; and Thy saints shall bless Thee. They shall speak of the glory of Thy kingdom, and talk of Thy power; To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.”

Psalm 37:3-6 “Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass. And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.”

Psalm 28:6-8 “Blessed be the LORD, because He hath heard the voice of my supplications. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise Him. The LORD is their strength, and He is the saving strength of His anointed.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
