282nd -- Never Again

It is important that we invest our time wisely when it comes to teaching
and directing the lives of our children who will be our next generation of
society. With all the busyness this world keeps us in, the devil tries his
best to keep us from investing our time in teaching and helping to direct
the path of our children's lives. The Bible declares in Proverbs 22:6,
"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not
depart from it." This scripture doesn't specify how we should train up our
children, but declares the way that we train them is the way they will
continue when they get older. We need to recognize the importance of
teaching our children right from wrong and showing them the way of the Lord
early in life so that they may learn of His nature and know that God loves
them greatly. (Deuteronomy 28:2-6) (Proverbs 14:26-27) (Ephesians 6:4)

I hope today's story ministers to your heart to be more attentive to your
children because the outcome is sure to be a positive one.

NEVER AGAIN

One Sunday I was entertained in a farm home of a member of a rural church.
The intelligence and unusually good behavior of the only child in the home,
a little four-year-old boy, impressed me.

Then I discovered one reason for the child's charm. The mother was at the
kitchen sink, washing the intricate parts of the cream separator when the
little boy came to her with a magazine.

"Mother," he asked, "what is this man in the picture doing?"

To my surprise she dried her hands, sat down on a chair, and taking the boy
in her lap, she spent the next few minutes answering his questions.

After the child had left, I commented on her having interrupted her chores
to answer the boy's question, saying, "Most mothers wouldn't have."

"I expect to be washing cream separators for the rest of my life," she told
me, "but never again will my son ask me that question."

In order for our children to grow up as responsible and loving adults, they
need to receive our assurance of love and dependability. The Bible tells
us to train up our children so that when they are old they will continue on
the path that we helped to lay for them. Let us be fervent in our
dedication in teaching right from wrong and showing our children that God
should always be first in their lives and because He is, the path of their
life is sure to be directed by the Lord. (Proverbs 22:6) (Proverbs 23:26)

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Proverbs 29:15-17 "The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to
himself bringeth his mother to shame. When the wicked are multiplied,
transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. Correct
thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul."

Hebrews 12:5-7 "…My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor
faint when thou art rebuked of Him: For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth,
and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God
dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father
chasteneth not?"

Hosea 14:9 "Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and
he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall
walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein."

Proverbs 23:22-26 "Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not
thy mother when she is old. Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom,
and instruction, and understanding. The father of the righteous shall
greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall
rejoice. My son, give Me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe My ways."
