1306th -- Watching Over Me

The one thing that keeps my mind calm and my heart at peace is that I know God has my back. Nothing can come my way without God already knowing about it. No trial, no calamity, no storm can rage against my life without God knowing about it or allowing it to come my way, and knowing this reassures me because I know if God permits it then it will be to my benefit in the end. My job is to stay in peace in the midst of that trial because if I trust that God has my best interest in mind then I also know that this trial will serve a purpose for my betterment. Having this type of confidence in the Lord is wonderful. I am sure the Lord is well pleased with those who face their trials with a quiet confidence because their trust is in the Great I Am. King David declares in Psalm 118:6 “The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” David knew that his future was secure no matter what came his way so there was no reason for him to fear anything that was in his path and we should emulate that same confidence in the God who created David, you and me. (Matthew 6:7-8) (Job 23:10-12)

No matter what trial you may be facing and no matter what obstacle may be trying to steal your peace, I want you to remember the goodness of the Lord. Remember the many times that you have overcome in times past and became better after the trial than you were before it. Use those memories to strengthen your resolve to never give in and never give up. Remember God's love for you and trust in His wisdom. The Bible declares in Psalm 84:11-12 “For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in Thee.” He knows exactly what we need and when we need it so let us give thanks and praise that God is on our side helping us to rise higher and to become better so that our life may be used to change this world for Him. (Psalm 107:28-32) (Philippians 2:13-16)

I hope this message inspires and encourages your heart to walk confidently with the Lord knowing that He will be with you no matter what may come your way.

WATCHING OVER ME

When I was a little boy growing up in my Grandma’s old house I would play outside for hours on the sunny, Summer days and then curl up in my bed at night for a deep, peaceful sleep. Occasionally, however, there would be some particularly vivid dream that would jar me awake for a moment. I would stare out into the darkness to see if anything was there and then roll over and go back to sleep. I can remember a few times too when I woke up, looked out into the darkness, and actually saw someone there. It was my Mom watching over me as I slept. Each time she gently told me to go back to sleep and I closed my eyes again feeling safe and loved.

I never asked Mom why she watched me sleep from time to time, but after seeing my own children grow up so fast I think I know why. She wanted to capture a moment in time and hold it in her soul forever. I just hope that she carried a lot of those moments with her into Heaven when she passed away at only 55 years old.

Last night I was sleeping lightly when I suddenly felt someone near me. I opened my eyes and for the briefest of moments saw Mom’s figure standing in the room, smiling at me. And then she was gone. Now some may say that this was just a dream, a wish, or a fragment of an old memory. To me, though, it was proof that my Mom’s loving spirit was still watching over me. To me it was evidence enough to know that one day I will be reunited with her and everyone I have ever loved.

Whether we see them or not we are all being watched over by those above. Whether we believe it or not we are all being loved and helped by those above. Trust in their love then. Trust in the love of our Heavenly Father. Know that your own life can be full of love too. Then joyfully go out and live it with a brave heart, a helping hand, and a smiling soul.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:

Hebrews 12:1-2 “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Psalm 103:1-5 “Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.”

Psalm 118:5-9 “I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The LORD taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.”

Psalm 40:1-4 “I waited patiently for the LORD; and He inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And He hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”

All of these scriptures can be found in the King James Version Bible.
