We should always keep in mind that there is great gratitude in the lives of
those whom we've helped to make better. Just as we are both thankful and
grateful for the help that we've received in our times of need, so it is
with those whom we've helped in times past. Never think of passing up an
opportunity to be helping towards someone else in need because their
gratefulness and appreciation for your intervention will be thought upon
far longer than the time it took to help that one. The Bible declares in
Galatians 6:2 “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of
Christ.” We are all God's children and must lead our life by the example
that Jesus has left us. Be encouraged to do all that you can to make a bad
situation a little better when you have the opportunity so that you may
fulfill God's command to love your brother as yourself and to do to others
as you would have them do to you. (Romans 12:3-18) (Matthew 5:43-48)
I hope this message inspires and challenges your heart to allow yourself to
be used to make a bad situation a little better. Only when we can be used
as a blessing does our self worth show itself and our heart becomes filled
with joy that overflows.
GRATITUDE
If you read the front page story of the SF Chronicle on Thursday, Dec 14,
2005, you would have read about a female humpback whale that had become
entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines. She was weighted down by
hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She
also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body - her tail,
her torso and line tugging in her mouth.
A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the
Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few
hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the
only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her - a very dangerous
proposition. One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.
They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she
was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She
then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them,
pushed them gently around -- she thanked them.
Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.
The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him
the whole time, and he will never be the same.
May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate -- to be
surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that
are binding you. And, may you always know the joy of giving and receiving
gratitude.

Read and meditate on these scriptures:
Galatians 5:22-26 “...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified
the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us
also walk in the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one
another, envying one another.”
James 1:19-22 “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to
hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the
righteousness of God. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity
of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able
to save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only,
deceiving your own selves.”
Matthew 5:5-9 Jesus declares “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit
the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain
mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed
are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth
not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself
unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things,
believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity
never faileth...”
